Mouth Cancer Action Month

Did you know that November is Mouth Cancer Action Month????

Mouth Cancer Action Month is a charity campaign which aims to raise awareness of mouth cancer and save lives by promoting the values of prevention and early detection.

In the UK more than 8,300 people were diagnosed with mouth cancer in 2017. Sadly the number of people being diagnosed with mouth cancer has grown by a third in the last decade.

The idea behind the campaign is to make everyone aware of the health of their mouth and look out for the signs and symptoms associated with mouth cancer as it can affect anyone!

The following points should be noted:

• Don’t leave a mouth ulcer unattended for more than three weeks.

• Don’t ignore any unusual lumps or swellings or red and white patches in your mouth.

• Regularly check your own mouth, lips, cheeks, head and neck for anything out of the ordinary.

If you do notice anything then book an appointment with your dentist or doctor as soon as possible. Quick action is very often life saving.
